Sending out your save-the-dates is exciting because it’s your first chance to give your guests some official info on your wedding! This is also your chance to have a little fun showing off your decided wedding colors and/or theme. Since your wedding is months away and, at this point, you’re not neck deep in finalizing your wedding plans … this is the perfect time for a little DIY action!

message in a bottle

Grab yourself a glass bottle, place all your important wedding details inside and seal it with a cork! This is a perfect Save the Date idea for a beach-themed or destination wedding. There are also plenty of sites to find kits just for this purpose if you’re not interested in spending too much time on it. My personal favorite site is Invitation In a Bottle, they really get your needs met nicely!

photo booth save the date

LOVE these, especially if you’re planning on having an actual photo booth at your wedding! Go to the mall with three or four signs to hold during your photo booth session that give guests your essential details. For example, the first pic could say “We’re getting hitched!”, the second could say the date, and the third could be: “Hope you come!”  Get as goofy or as romantic as you want to in the pics.

save the date movie poster

How fun would this photo shoot be?! There are a ton of movies you could imitate, depending on either your theme or favorite movie as a couple. You could then Photoshop the text into the picture to make it look like a movie poster. To take a further step you could make these into magnets so your guests can easily be reminded each time they look at the refrigerator.

save the date scratch off

Keep your guests guessing what the big date will be until they scratch off the answer. You could even make it so the guests need to scratch off the location if it’s a destination wedding OR if not too many people know you’re engaged yet then you could even have the guests scratch off who’s getting married! There are some really cute customizable ‘ready made’ options to buy or you could whip up some silver scratch-able paint  by mixing acrylic paint with washing up liquid then paint it over your own design/chosen save the date cards. Tutorial here.

library card save the date

Tell your guests your love story with this really unique library card idea! You can find blank cards on Etsy for this fun project ($3.50 for 25).
